One of the things I have really been wrestling with in the last couple years is… well, frankly, the coaching industry. I love coaching and coaching has helped me, but I also see a lot of harm being done by bad actors and bad practices, especially in the area of business coaching. I realized I was a part of the problem and I've worked hard to clean things up, but it's definitely an ongoing process of unraveling.
See one of the many problems with business coaching, in my opinion, is that when you are spending money on a coach, that ties up your resources for what you SHOULD be spending money on as an author and business owner. Here’s what I ACTUALLY I think you should be spending money on:
- Hire someone to build you a funnel.
- Hire someone to do your ads.
- Hire someone to run a direct response marketing campaign for you.
- Hire someone to help you create, price, and set up your program.
- Hire someone to do your social media and email marketing.
- Hire someone to get you booked on podcasts and in speaking events.
- Hire someone to do lead generation for you.
- Hire someone to manage projects so they get done more efficiently.
In short, you need to go beyond learning and thinking, and make your author business REAL!
Earlier this year I killed all my group business coaching offers -- I just could not find a way to deliver it ethically and honestly I really don't believe anyone can. (Hint: I don't think you should buy business coaching).
